Old Time Jukebox: For Someone
- Broken Grooves, Favorites Back to Portfolio
This is one of my favorite mixes that presents a sound highly influenced by U.S. based genres such as jazz, instrumental hip hop, blues and electronica. A part of my Old Time Jukebox series, so a flare for the historical and the sounds of vinyl weave throughout the mix. This is dedicated to tish lopez.
Music always tells a story, but this mix tells a story more so than any of my others. It draws upon themes of love, worship, solidarity, and crime. The story presented to you takes place in the early to mid 20th century and weaves in sounds of crackling vinyl, blues, gospel, and 20’s lounge wrapped in instrumental hip hop and downtempo. I hope you like it.
This dj mix integrates Tango, Flamenco, Jazz, Brazilian Lounge, string instruments, and 50′s Soundtracks with electronic downtempo beats. Excellent focus on instrumentation makes this mix especially unique.
This mix is a sexy, classy, downtempo mix for quieter and relaxed moods. Musical influences range from Tango, 20′s lounge, jazz, and classic blues. I always listen to this when i’m looking for a sophisticated mix.
The tracks in this mix are hip hop beat oriented with vocal and instrumental samples from old blues, jazz, 20′s lounge, swing and other traditional Western musics. A favorite among listeners. If you like trip-hop/downtempo then this is for you.
This mix began as an exploration of textured downtempo with ambient interludes. However, as the weeks went, on the mix, as it usually does, begins to form its own narrative. The finished mix is a journey across the sea, on a luxury boat, that begins with beautiful and classy downtempo, but as the journey goes on, it begins to get darker by exploring the loneliness and isolation of journeys upon sea. The journey ends with This Mortal Coils’ epic – Song to the Siren.
This thematic dj mix is a retrospective of the United State’s rich musical and cultural history set to hip hop beats. Not a dj mix per se, but more of a selection of tracks highlighting music from the early 20’s to 60’s jazz. This set foregrounds vintage soundtracks, radio shows, and sampling to bring a contemporary electronic mix.
Heden St. Lounge is uptown, classy, refined, and centered on the sexiest downtempo tracks I had. Musical influences from Jazz, Tango, Middle East, Paris and UK. Perfect soundtrack for a night in or getting ready to go out.
A thematic mix inspired by works that represent the achingly beautiful yet withdrawn indifferent moments in our lives. The music attempts to capture the image of a lone person walking through a rain drenched cityscape or the feeling of watching the world pass us by. Mainly jazz influenced trip hop with interspersed moments of piano and cello pieces.
This mix was recorded live at a local event here in Seattle. This is more indicative of Dj Advent’s more dance oriented sets funky, fun, yet steeped in influences from Latin America, Arabia, and India.
